When I got this tractor the brakes did not work. My property is some what hilly. today I tried to adjust the brakes and found the adjuster all the way up with no more adjustment left. When I loosened the adjuster I discovered that the rod was not attached to anything at the other end. I have heard that this model tractor never had very good braking power Should I go to the effort/expense and try to do a brake job or will I be disappointed with the results. If I try a brake job I will need a diagram of the braking system. Thank You for any assistance.

Are the brakes on the 530 like the ones on a 1410 Case David Brown

When I bought the tractor the previous owner said this tractor was known for poor brakes
he had a front loader on it and used that to stop the tractor
I purchase an owners manuel found out how to ajust them now it has great brakes

You can get an exploded parts view of the brakes at the link. When you get the graphics loaded, click on the printer icon on the small tool bar for a larger, clear view.

The 30 series case tractors are notorious for bad brakes. They can be made better. I"m not familiar with the 530 but I assume they are the same design as 730-1030. There are steel balls that get rusted up and seize to the seats on the friction plates. you can clean them up and I believe that there are an oversize ball that helps. They are a pretty simple design and fairly easy to work on.

I have a 530 with a loader and brakes have always been marginal so I just plan my moves and take my time with no problems. I hope overhaul them this winter, but I have used the tractor as is for 7 yrs. I have done brake jobs on my Case 300 and Case 300B which are similar in design to the 530, and they are not easy but with time and patience, can be done with simple tools. Parts are still available at Case/IH dealers.
